Thrive in a stimulating environment

At our preschool, we firmly believe that the perfect model approach does not exist nor that one size fits all nor that it is necessary to reinvent the wheel when considering learning approaches. We believe that what really makes a difference is passionate people equipped with expert knowledge of all five pedagogical approaches who can carefully and skilfully adapt and transform them into a highly functional approach to the wellbeing of the children entrusted to our care. As nature has revealed the secret of harmony to us, we pay particular attention to the children’s environment and learning spaces. We do not consider the classroom to be always the best or ideal place to learn. We prefer to spend time outdoors in the open air constantly stimulating the children’s curiosity. We think beauty and wonder are fundamental to learning and there is a lot of it to discover outside!

Reggio Emilia Approach

All of the preschool teachers are accredited practitioners of the Reggio Emilia approach, which is a pedagogical method which recognises the child, together with their parents, as the protagonist of their early learning pathway. Collegio Gallio is currently the only school in the city of Como and one of the first in the province to offer accredited Reggio Emilia approach preschool staff.

Workshops & excursions

Our little ones learn through action, experimenting with their hands and manipulating materials, while building language skills through the use of words. At the same time, they develop autonomy and explore their own personal identity, interacting and identifying with their peers. Through psychomotor activities and music, they explore body movement. outdoor activities in natural and built environments enrich their journey, while Pet Therapy and Pet Education experiences encourage the development of empathy, the building of meaningful relationships and a sense of belonging and security. We pay particular attention to inclusion and are proud to be the first school in Como mapped with augmentative alternative communication (CCA) signage.

English

An hour of english a day

Starting at preschool, Collegio Gallio offers a parallel course in english consisting of one hour per day with a qualified native speaker teacher. Every day, our children spend part of their day playing, speaking, listening and singing in english. The objective of the course is to introduce the basic elements of a second language and access them through sensorial-perceptive channels typical of this age (visual, auditory and motor).

Sezione Primavera

Made to measure

Our school strives to ensure the development of a solid base of skills, knowledge and understanding, tailoring a response that meets each child’s needs. The focus of our educational program is to capitalise on the natural dispositions all children possess (creativity, energy and imagination) through the approach in contexts of meaning in which children are immersed and engaged with meaning and success, with a particular focus on inclusiveness, to be experienced as a resource and wealth.
